The Results:

Glycolic acid (at the appropriate percentage) is great for hyperpigmentation, sun damage, and oily/combination skin.  It is recommended that people with dark skin use no stronger than between 10% and 25 % strength.  It is also recommended that glycolic acid (a chemical peel) be done by a professional at a spa or dermatologist’s office.

Chemical peels basically dissolve the top layer of your skin, making the skin appear smoother, younger, and more even in tone. If not applied correctly, they will actually burn and scar your skin… after all, it is acid.

This Juice Beauty version is plant-based, 10%, and a cream as opposed to liquid, making it super gentle on your skin. You apply it after washing your face, leave it on for 10 minutes, then rinse with water. It can be used once a week.

I use this product on and off.  I purchased it in the spring when I discovered my skin was looking dull. It makes my skin look and feel super smooth (no pores in sight) and my skintone appears brighter as well. While on, it may cause itching or a little discomfort but it does not sting or burn the way plain medical-grade glycolic acid does.

If you’re looking to get into face peels — whether you plan to do them yourself or not — the Juice Beauty Green Apple Peel is a great place to start. Afterall, with chemical peels, you’re supposed to start with the lowest percentage possible and work your way up over time. eBay has a variety of medical-grade glycolic acid but they are dangerous to use if you’re not sure what you’re doing. A 2 oz jar of the Juice Beauty is roughly $45 and can be used several times. It definitely beats the cost of one spa treatment, which ranges from $50 to $75.
